Well, it’s finally upon us. The NFL is back and 2 of the best words in all of sports, Opening Night. However, with the global pandemic it just feels strange. I can’t be the only person that feels demotivated to play fantasy football this year. The lack of a bubble combined with trusting the players to do the right thing is disconcerting. Look at the NBA and its current investigation of Daniel House for sneaking a woman into the NBA bubble. This sort of selfish behavior jeopardizes the safety of the team and his fellow players. Another case in point is Mike Clevinger, now of the San Diego Padres. Clevinger is a top of the line pitcher that decided to violate team rules and venture out to a party after a game. After a near mutiny, Clevinger wound up getting traded, clearly because of his poor choice in judgment. I sincerely hope such similar patterns of behavior do not occur in the NFL.
Furthermore, there is a virtual cornucopia of sporting events to watch. We have gone from a state of nothing to watch to now a complete sports overload of programming. Options seem to be unlimited with the women’s semifinals at the US Open, the MLS, MLB, playoffs in the NBA and NHL, and the WNBA. Maybe its just that we’re seeing the playoffs in winter sports that should be done in June and in the middle of an off-season. Not too mention the return of domestic leagues in European soccer, a Kentucky Derby in September, and the US Open in golf looming. There’s so much going on. It’s a good time to be a sports fan and I’m sure I’ll be back into the NFL even as my beloved Jets find a way to give me massive doses of agita as only they can!
